Safety at sea

A day on the water is safe when it is prepared for. This is what we require, and what we ask of you.

The platform is currently offered as a beta service, operated by GEXCAP INC. Verification checks, messaging and refunds work as described below, but treat anything time-critical — the meeting point, the exact departure time, whether a trip is going ahead — as something to confirm directly with the host, not solely from what the app shows.

What we check before a boat is listed

Registration, valid insurance, and a licensed skipper. We ask for the documents, a person looks at them, and the listing stays unpublished until they are in order. Capacity on the listing is the legal capacity of the vessel, not a suggestion.

Some boats can be taken out without a skipper. Where that is the case the listing says so, and says whether a licence is required before the host will hand over the keys. If a listing does not say it, assume the boat comes with its skipper and ask the host before you book.

What the host is responsible for

Lifejackets aboard for every guest, including sizes for children. Working radio and navigation equipment. The decision to sail. A host may shorten or call off a trip for weather or sea state — that is their judgement to make, and if they make it you are refunded in full.

What you are responsible for

The number of people you bring aboard, and that it does not exceed the capacity on the listing. Telling the host in advance about anyone who cannot swim, and about children. Following the skipper's instructions once you are aboard. Alcohol and swimming do not mix, and no skipper will let them.

Weather

Malta's summer is reliable, but a northerly swell closes the southern cliffs and the Blue Grotto approach even on a clear day. Routes change for that reason and it is not a fault of the booking.

If something goes wrong

At sea, follow the skipper. Afterwards, open a dispute from the booking — it reaches a real person, and the payment is held while it is looked at.
